The “New Year Postcard'23” volunteer project aims to support the Ukrainian army.
As a citizen of Ukraine, I have always had a deep appreciation for the brave men and women who serve in our military. Their sacrifices and dedication to our nation are truly inspiring, and I wanted to find a way to show my support and gratitude.
In 2023, as the conflict in Ukraine continued, I felt a strong desire to do something meaningful for our troops. After much thought and research, I decided to create a volunteer project to send New Year's cards with kid’s wishes to Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines. I believed that this small gesture could help boost the morale of our troops and show them that we stand with them in their fight for our country.
I had an idea for a design, but the first challenge I faced was finding an artist to create the card's face. I searched online and discovered the work of Christian Philip Tee, a talented artist from the Philippines. I reached out to him, and to my delight, he agreed to create a custom design for the project.
With the design in hand, I started contacting schools in Kyiv to find students who could sign the postcards. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing rocket attacks and power outages, many schools had limited attendance. I turned to volunteers for help, but it was a challenge. Many did not believe in the project's success or the ability to find enough children to sign the postcards. Additionally, the lack of power made it difficult to print such a large number of postcards (2000 items).
Despite these challenges, I was fortunate to find a dedicated volunteer named Maria who shared my passion for the project. Together, we distributed the cards to schools and organized the signing process. We were able to collect 1400 cards, which were then sent to troops on the front lines with the help of several organizations.
The project was not without difficulties. As we began delivering the cards, we encountered opposition from some people who were not supportive of our efforts. However, we persevered and continued to spread our message of support and gratitude.
The impact of our project was truly heartwarming. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those who received the postcards was incredibly rewarding, and it gave us hope that our small gesture could make a big difference. We were humbled to receive messages of thanks from the soldiers, and we were proud to have played a small role in supporting our troops.
In conclusion, this project taught me the importance of persistence and resilience in the face of adversity. It also showed me the power of community and how it can come together to achieve a common goal. I hope that our project will inspire others to find ways to support our troops and show our appreciation for their sacrifices.
